Committee on Committees

The Committee on Committees shall have the responsibility for making recommendations to the University Senate as to the establishment or dissolution of reporting committees as well as responsibilities related to Governance Committees. The committee makes faculty and staff appointments to all the governance committees and monitors their activities to ensure that they are performing as intended.

After the deadline for filling out the Willingness-to-Serve forms has passed during the spring semester, the Committee on Committees meets to make appointments to fill vacancies due to expired terms on the 33 committees to which it makes appointments.

To avoid a conflict in making selections, the members of the Committee on Committees are considered ineligible to be appointed to any other committee. The committee will make every effort to give respondents their highest priority choice with the additional constraint that as many people should be involved on Governance Committee as possible. That is, those individuals who are not already on committees will be given preference over those who are already serving on other committees to which the Committee on Committees makes appointments.

Willingness-to-Serve forms are kept on file and used to fill any vacancies that occur during the year. Only when qualified volunteers cannot be found among those submitting Willingness-to-Serve forms does the committee look elsewhere for volunteers.

The Committee on Committees also accepts suggestions concerning appointments from various groups and individuals on campus. Such suggestions are not binding on the committee and may be disregarded altogether when appointments are made.
