Dear KU Campus Community,
Over the past year, there has been much information provided to you regarding our budget challenges. In March, we notified the faculty union and campus of the possibility of retrenchment, while placing select programs under review.
As a part of the on-going process mentioned above, and in an effort to meet our projected deficit for the years ahead, we have informed six faculty members of position retrenchment. This means these positions will be eliminated effective June 30, 2011. The six positions include two each in the departments of advisement, nursing and theater. As was shared in the spring, the Department of Academic Advisement will be eliminated at the end of the academic year. The programs in nursing (BSN; MSN) and theater (BA; minor in Theatre; Minor in Musical Theater) have been officially placed in moratorium.
The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE,) the PASSHE universities and the faculty union are working together to ensure employees that receive retrenchment notices are informed of any vacant positions across the system.
I will notify you of further developments regarding our budget situation as we move throughout the academic year.
Sincerely,
F. Javier Cevallos
