KU PRESIDENT’S UPDATE

Dear Kutztown University Community,

As another semester and calendar year come to a close, and we share the enjoyment of the holiday season, I’d like to reflect on what I am grateful for during the past semester at our university.  

First, congratulations to all of you.  The hard work and accomplishments of our faculty, staff and students continue to uphold the academic standing of our university as one of the top schools in the system.  It is your efforts in the classroom, office, community and more that allows us to achieve the excellent standards and reputation we constantly strive to maintain. 

I am glad to share, that in spite of these difficult financial times, we have authorized 18 faculty tenure lines for next academic year.  This strategic decision is part of our commitment to our academic core and will allow us to continue to attract and retain the best professors possible.  In turn, KU will be able to recruit the best and the brightest high school seniors. 

The outcome of our performance indicators established by PASSHE, and the funding we were awarded this year based on our results, brings me great pride.  This is directly due to the efforts of the entire university community and, once again, I commend you.  

I am proud that our campus community worked together to refine our current strategic plan, delivering a proposal on time.  I am particularly thankful to the Strategic Planning Task Force for this achievement.  This strategic plan will help us guide and measure our goals in 2012 and beyond.

In addition, I am thankful for the esprit de corps our campus enjoyed this fall as the result of our student life programs and our first-ever PSAC champion football team.  The visibility of our institution received a tremendous boost, and the atmosphere on some of those autumn days was truly unforgettable.  Go Golden Bears!

As we look ahead, I want to extend congratulations to our students who are graduating next weekend.  We are proud of the work you have done here at Kutztown and know you will make a positive impact in your workplace and the community.   I want to encourage all of you to stay connected as alumni and to always remember --- you are welcome on campus anytime.

In closing, I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season and a healthy and prosperous new year.  During this time I hope you will be able to relax with family and friends as we celebrate this special time.
