Dr. Hugo Ceron-Anaya’s graduate school was conducted in the Department of Sociology at the University of Essex, United Kingdom. In 2009 he relocated to the United States, where he has been teaching and doing research. His in interests are focused on social theory, globalization, social inequalities, immigration, race and masculinity. He has explored most of these topics through sports.
Dr. Ceron-Anaya’s doctoral research draws from the British tradition of cultural studies to offer a sociological explanation of the connection between business, golf and globalization. This work analyzes why people conduct business on the golf course and how global trends have been localized in Mexico. This research also looks at the strong link financial institutions have developed with golf tournaments around the globe, elaborating on the political economy of globalization.
