February 6 March 11, 2001 The Sharadin Art Gallery at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania invited art critics Tom Csaszar, Robin Rice, and Miriam Seidel to identify two artists each who embody or point to a philosophical, aesthetic, or technological transition into the 21st century. The resulting group of artists produce stylistically and technically diverse works in a variety of mediums; some pieces have overt connections to a vocabulary of change while others address the notion of "future" primarily through metaphor. In all cases, the works offer exciting examples of current artistic expression and possibilities for the future. We wish to thank the curators and the participating artists: Ruth Borgenicht, Kathryn Frund, Brian McCutcheon, Michelle Oosterbaan, Andrew Tomasulo, and Chris Vecchio. We are also indebted to exhibition preparator Kurt Moyer, Director of University Publications Camille DeMarco, and Christine Pfister at Pentimenti Gallery, Philadelphia, PA, for making Kathryn Frund's work available to the exhibition. |
