Sharadin Art Gallery at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania

An exhibition based on geographic proximity is a risky pursuit. At worst, it can result in an odd assortment of objects without underlying cohesion – a show that functions primarily in its cancellation of nuance and subtlety. However it can also be a cauldron brimming with surprising comparisons and catalytic contrasts – a show that illuminates the unexpected and offers a ground for considering the possibility of shared regional traits no matter how illusive. A geographic show recognizes that while we are neighbors, we generally have staked very personal territories. However, it can serve to emphasize that our fields of artistic practice are nourished by a common climate and a shared soil.

The Sharadin Art Gallery is organizing Adjacencies to highlight the richness of artistic practice in our region. We invite artists, craftspeople, and designers to send work examples. We envision selecting an exhibition of 8-15 artists who call our 7 county area “home.”

A FEW DETAILS:
• Delivery and pick-up of selected work will be the responsibility of the artists -- an honoraria will be paid to partially defray expenses
• The gallery will produce a brochure and color exhibition announcement listing all participants
• Works are insured for duration of exhibition

TO BE CONSIDERED, PLEASE SEND:
• Documentation of your work (no more than twenty 35mm slides or images on a CD ROM). Slides and CD ROMs should be labeled or accompanied by a reference list indicating title, year completed, media, and size. Proposals for yet unrealized works will also be considered.
• Résumé
• Support material (this is optional -- it can include articles, catalogs, reviews, etc.)
• A self-addressed stamped envelop for the return of your material
• There are no entry forms or fees to be considered for this exhibition
