Kutztown University has long been concerned with the preparation of qualified teachers. The Department of Special Education, established in 1961, has expanded on that tradition. Special Education job possibilities have continued to increase as legislative mandates and service provisions to persons with disabilities have occurred. Current and projected employment opportunities in special education are among the finest in the field of education. The Special Education Department offers certification programs in two areas:

• Teaching students who have a Mentally/Physically Handicapped (MPH) condition. Dual teaching certification is offered in Special Education/MPH and Elementary Education.
• The Program on Visual Impairment (TVI) Undergraduate with dual teaching certification in Special Education/Visual Impairment and Elementary Education.

Each program provides a unique series of coursework and field-based activities designed to prepare graduates to meet the demands of a challenging and fulfilling career. The Special Education Department is located in the Beekey Education Center located on the north campus of Kutztown University. Our department office is on the first floor of the building in Room 111.
