Welcome to the Kutztown University Special Education web page. This website will give you a brief overview of our program opportunities. The Special Education Department is located in the Beekey Education Center located on the south campus if Kutztown University. Our department office is on the first floor of the building in Room 113. rich Kutztown University has long been concerned with the preparation of qualified teachers. The Department of Special Education, established in 1961, has continued and expanded on that tradition. Special Education job possibilities have continued to increase as legislative mandates and service provisions to persons with disabilities have occurred. Current and projected employment opportunities in special education are among the finest in the field of education. The Department offers certification programs in two areas: teaching the Mentally/Physically Handicapped (MPH), teaching the Visually Impaired (VI). Each program provides a unique series of course work and field-based activities designed to prepare graduates to meet the demands of a challenging and fulfilling career. The program in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) prepares students for success in graduate school. Some unique features are the amount of clinical practicum students receive at the undergraduate level and the opportunity to student teach in two different settings.
