Program on Visual Impairment > Qualifications
- students must meet the KU Admissions requirements.
- You will enter KU as a Special Education/Visual Impairment major and automatically gain a dual major with elementary education. When selecting your major be sure to list Special Education/Visual Impairment.
- Teacher candidates complete all visual impairment and elementary education certification requirements in our four year program.
- Field based experiences are provided in both elementary education and visual impairment beginning in the freshman year and continue to the culminating clinical field experience (student teaching). Program graduates meeting the PA Teacher Certification requirements are certified to teach in special education programs for students with visual impairments (N-21) and in elementary classrooms.
- candidates must currently hold a valid teaching certification and have access to a computer for use of distance learning programming.
