The Department requires a successfully completed and evaluated Art Test for entry of new students into the major. Transfer students must submit a portfolio of work. To download the new transfer student portfolio requirements please click here. The Art Test has been specifically developed to evaluate the applicant’s potential as it relates to the Communication Design major.

Alternatively, new first-year applicants may schedule an interview-style portfolio review at designated open houses. Contact the Dept. for more information.

  • The Art Test is due postmarked on or before the published deadline.
  • The Art Test is to be prepared according to all published guidelines and instructions.
  • All information on the Art Test must be completed.
  • Only one Art Test may be submitted per calendar year.
  • Successful admission to Kutztown University is required.
  • Only original, hand-created artwork is accepted. No computer-generated artwork or typography is acceptable. An applicant’s own photography is acceptable. Note: The applicant may be asked for proof of originality. Collages of photography, typography or other artwork/references is permissible. Typography may be traced.
  • The Communication Design Department does not provide any admissions or Art Test results.
  • The decision of the Art Test Committee is final. Faculty will not critique Art Tests for individual applicants.
  • Art Tests are reviewed in the order they are received.

Place the Art Test in a 9" X 12" envelope, seal and mail or deliver to:
