Ken Barber of House Industries
will be giving a lecture on to students, faculty and alumni. Visit
House. to see their fonts and other
cool products. Ken will be speaking about the history of House Industries
and the processes that his firm uses to design their very popular typefaces.
There will be an exhibition of their packaging in the lobby of Sharadin
to coincide with the presentation.

This exhibition will feature artwork by 43 artists who have defined the Art Education & Crafts, Communication Design, and Fine Arts programs at Kutztown University. The exhibition will include works in a variety of mediums by 30 current faculty members, 7 emeriti faculty, and 6 selected alumni. CD's selected alumni are graphic designer Laurie (Gottstine) DeMartino and illustrator Tom Hallman.

Each year the Communication Design Department hosts two of our distinguished graduates to come back to KU and speak about their careers.
This year’s presenter’s Adam Kucharik and Katie Cleaver will discuss working in the Interactive Design field.

Brad Holland (born 1943) is an American illustrator, best known for his work for Playboy and Penthouse magazines. Holland has won more awards presented by the New York Society of Illustrators than any other illustrator in its long history. In 2005 he was elected to the NYSI Hall of Fame. The American illustrator Mark English has called Holland "the most important illustrator in American today."

Essence Magazine was entered in the UCDA (University & College Designers Association) national design competition and won an "Award of Excellence" for the Student Published Work category.
The judges evaluated 1300 print entries and chose 257 for awards (only 9 gold and 9 silver were given). Essence is advised by Prof. Kate Clair and designed by students; Jeremy Cresswell, Jenna Palermo, Scott Nothwehr, Lacey Christman, Ross Moody, Jon patrizi and Katie Zimmer.
CD alumus Sean Allsion won for his Fresh Baked promotion for the CD senior Portfolio Day.
CD alumi Matt Twombly and Kaitlin Carita won in the Senior Portfolio category.
CD student Bill Riedel won for his McPiggly CD Lab Poster.

CD space was completed for school beginning August 2008, Sharadin has doubled in size and will be fully renovated giving us a fresh look and greater capability to continue providing an excellent education in the arts. This year’s presenter’s Ryan Riccitelli and Summer Doll will discuss living and working in NYC.
Ryan Riccitelli (1999 KUCD Grad)
Ryan Riccitelli is an award-winning art director
with a decade of advertising experience in New York
City. At agencies including Ogilvy, Hill Holliday,
DraftFCB and EuroRSCG, he has teamed with some of
the most talented people in the business. Ryan’s
creative reach spans print, outdoor, direct marketing,
and interactive. His concepts have helped build
a wide range of brands, including Verizon, IBM, Sanofi-Aventis,
Lincoln Center, and the New York Public Library.
Ryan graduated cum laude in 1999 with a major in Communication Design, a minor in Advertising, and a dream of living and working in New York. He is currently a Senior Art Director at EuroRSCG, and lives in Manhattan with his wife, Krista.
Summer Doll (2001 KUCD Grad)
After graduating in 2001 from KU with dual concentration
in advertising and graphic design, Summer’s main
goal was to get a job in advertising in NYC. After 9/11
it was hard to get a job in the city. But after going on
many interviews and a few interesting jobs along the way...she
finally landed a full time job as a Jr. Art Director at
FCB in the city. She was there for a year and a half. For
the past 5 years Summer has moved up the ranks at Grey
Healthcare Group to Art Supervisor. Working on various
accounts from professional to consumer and now working
on her first commercial. In 2007, Summer graduated from
Marywood University with an MFA.
1990 KUCD grad presents his work and speaks about his sooper
career as an animator.

Mr. Warburton is the creator of cartoon network’s
sooper giant hit original series codename: kids next door. A
total of 80 action packed episodes were made at New York's curious
pictures along with the mega-giant TV movie-operation:
ZERO!
Mr. Warburton has previously served as a director for
cartoon network's
‘sheep in the big city’, lead character designer
for Disney’s ‘Pepper Ann.’, and spent five
years at commercial studio J.J. Sedelmaier productions where
he served as production designer on MTV’s ‘Beavis
and Butthead’, director on new episodes of ‘Schoolhouse
Rock’ and Saturday Night Live’s ‘tv funhouse’ and
stayed up late animating lots of commercials for clients
such as Levi’s, Converse, Volkswagon and Slim Jim.
Mr. Warburton currently lives in Brooklyn, NY with his sooper hero wife and two sooper powered sons.
He is 12 years old.
