CJ Association members at the Eastern State Penitentiary, 10/02 The Criminal Justice Association is a student organization that meets every month during the academic year. The purpose is to encourage professional growth and professional socialization among Kutztown Criminal Justice students. However, membership is open to students from all majors. On campus meetings generally consist of speakers from criminal justice agencies, however, the Association also sponsors trips to career fairs, criminal justice agencies, and occasional social events. Alpha Phi Sigma is the national criminal justice honor society. It was founded in 1942 at Washington State University and became affiliated with the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) in 1976. Today there are almost 300 Alpha Phi Sigma chapters around the country. KU’s Kappa Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma was established in Spring 2008 with 13 founding members. The chapter advisors are Dr. Pietro Toggia and the assistant advisor is Dr. AnnMarie Cordner. To be eligible for membership, a student must be a criminal justice major or minor, have completed at least 40 credit hours, including at least four criminal justice courses, have an overall QPA of 3.2 or higher, and have a QPA in criminal justice courses of 3.2 or higher.
