Jonathan Kremser's area of research is school-related offenses and victimization. He is among the first in the field to conduct research on zero tolerance policies within Canadian secondary schools, and is currently exploring victimization of inner-city middle school students. His publications are on topics related to school crime and violence, security, and juvenile gangs. He regularly presents papers on school crime-related issues at conferences throughout the United States and Canada.
Professor Kremser is interested in the latest research and techniques that address school-related offenses, juvenile delinquency, and crime prevention. He received a grant from the Pennsylvania Institute for Children's Environmental Health, which led to his students being introduced to new research that examines how environmental pollutants are associated with school disciplinary problems and delinquency.
Professor Kremser has recently completed training in the area of threat assessment in schools sponsored by the Worcester County, Maryland Sheriff's Office. He is also certified in School Resource Officer Active School Shooter Response by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), and is a certified Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) specialist. He provides training and consultation to schools that implement the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program-an international, evidence-based program designed by the pioneer of school bullying research in Scandinavia. His future plans include the development of effective policy to address the problem of cyber-bullying among schoolchildren.
