3 Reasons to study at KU
FACULTY:
The faculty constitutes the heart of any university. Unfortunately, at many institutions it is common to find undergraduate classes, particularly those at the introductory level, taught by graduate students. This is never the case at Kutztown University. From your first freshman foundation courses through the most advanced studios, you will always be working directly with experienced and accomplished professionals. Our studio faculty members are widely recognized in their chosen disciplines. Their artwork is included in prestigious national and international collections, including The Guggenheim Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Washington's Corcoran Gallery and The Hirschorn Museum. Many of our faculty members regularly exhibit their work in both galleries and museums nationally. They have been honored with numerous awards and fellowships from private foundations, state arts councils, and The National Endowment for the Arts. Our faculty is our strength. At Kutztown University this superb faculty is your resource.
LOCATION:
One of Kutztown's greatest assets is its location on the Eastern Corridor. This is particularly attractive to those involved in the arts. We are located in the heart of the picturesque Pennsylvania Dutch countryside with its meandering streams, covered bridges and historic homesteads, yet the major cultural centers of New York, Philadelphia and Washington, DC are all easily and inexpensively accessed from our campus. For example, New York City is only a two hour bus ride away with several buses departing each day from the station only one block from the Sharadin Art Studio building. Many students regularly visit the galleries and museums on their own. In addition there are regularly scheduled field trips offered several times during every semester. At Kutztown you will enjoy the best of both worlds - the relaxed atmosphere, safety and low cost of our rural environment, as well as the culture and excitement of the east coast art scene.
VALUE:
For most of us cost is a factor in deciding what university we will attend. As part of the State System of Higher Education, Kutztown University offers a tuition that is quite competitive along with access to various financial aid programs. However, low tuition costs are meaningless if the quality of the education being offered is also low. At many universities, even some of the most prestigious ones, the arts are treated like second class citizens. Programs in the visual arts are traditionally underfunded and often are struggling to survive. This is not the case at Kutztown University! We are well known for our programs in the visual arts. The College of Visual and Performing Arts is a dynamic presence on the Kutztown campus, enjoying a high profile and the respect of the administration. Art students are not in the minority here at Kutztown. Why are our programs so popular? It is in large part due to our reputation for offering a high quality undergraduate education in the arts with affordable, state-subsidized tuition.
