Evan D. Summer has taught printmaking since joining our department in 1984. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale University School of Art, New Haven, CT (1975); a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, NY (1973); and a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York College at Cortland (1970). Professor Summer's work has been the focus of several solo exhibition including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. (1999); "Evan Summer: Prints and Drawings," Franz Bader Gallery, Washington, D.C. (1987); and "Evan Summer: Prints, Drawings and Collages," Comus Gallery, Portland, OR (1993). His work has shown in numerous group exhibitions including the "International Print Triennials," an exhibition organized in Krakow, Poland, which traveled to various European venues (1997-99, 1994-96, 1991-92); the "169th through 174th Annual Exhibitions," at the National Academy, New York City (1994-99); and the "10th and 12th Norwegian International Print Triennials," in Fredrikstad, Norway (1992 and '99). His work is included in private, corporate, and public collections including the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA; and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. Professor Summer is the winner of the 1999 Leo Meissner Prize from the National Academy, New York City; he was the recipient of the Bronze Medal at the Second Egyptian International Print Triennial (1997), and the Silver Medal from the 10th Norwegian International Print Triennial (1992). He is an elected member of the National Academy, New York City (1993); the International Print Triennial Society (1995); and Boston Printmakers, Boston, MA.
