Brazil12

Praia Flamengo is one of Rio's most important avenues, connecting the downtown district with Eastern suburbs such as Copacabana.

Brazil13

It takes only a relatively short time to leave the congested areas of Rio and come to such a peaceful and quiet beach as this where the waters are reflected in the distant islands that mark the entrance to Rio Bay from the Atlantic Ocean, very near Sugar Loaf.

Brazil14

Copacabana, along the curved shores of Copacabana Bay, the waters in the distance are those of the Atlantic Ocean.

Brazil15

Avenida Atlantica is the main thoroughfare of the District of Copacabana.  Apartments or hotel rooms along this avenue are among the most popular in the whole city.

Brazil16

The suburbs of Ipanema and Leblon are among the most recent in Rio's history.

Brazil17

Out in the suburbs of Lebanon, this very modern house with its straight lines was built on a tiny peninsula exposed to the sea.

Brazil18

The suburb of Gava is the most recent as well as the most remote of the little residential sections of Rio.

Brazil19

Very much contrast with the modern skyscrapers and apartment buildings of downtown Rio are the poor residential sections, the slums called "Favela" in the city.
