Agnes-Mary Roberts Akwaaba (welcome) everyone to my country Ghana. Formerly known as the gold coast, Ghana is located in western Africa. The capital city, also the largest city is Accra. I am please to inform you that Ghana is the first black African country to obtain independence from colonial rule. Our major source of foreign exchange is Gold, timber and cocoa production. The climate is tropical. The major religion is Christianity which covers 63% of the population. Spicy foods are our delicacy. One of the widely served traditional dishes in my country is "Fufu" which consist of pounded balls of yam, plantain or cassava served with soup and a side of goat meat and fish. Our official language is English which is also known as the colonial language. We also speak our local Ghanaian languages such as Akan, Moshie Dagomba, Ewe and Ga. Ghana, a great place for tourism, has parks like the Kakum national park. A rainforest, which happens to have the only treetop 350 meter canopy walkway in Africa. There is also the Cape Coast castle, and Elmina castle. Here the history of the slave trade unfolds before your very eyes as you go through the slave dungeons of the Elmina and Cape Coast Castle. Ghana is a very friendly country, rich in culture and ideal for first time travelers to Africa. If you are by any chance into the life of the late Bob Marley, it might please you to know that his wife Rita Marley, resides in Ghana. Visit Ghana. “A golden experience at the centre of the world”. My name is Agnes-Mary Nekai Roberts. Nekai meaning “third girl”. I was born in The Gambia but I am a Ghanaian citizen. My instinctive response is cool but friendly. My best qualities are sincerity and humanitarian zeal. My negative quality is being unpredictable. One thing I can say about myself is that I live in the present. What happened a year ago, or a month ago was then, this is now and that’s all that matters. To me it is the moment that is to be experienced. Kutztown University is a lovely place. I have finally settled in some; it wasn’t as hard as I thought. I guess the buffer has been my siblings (a graduate and would be graduate of Kutztown); the students, staff and faculty are amazing. I have never come across such helpful people. They have actually embraced me in a way I never thought possible. Peace. |
