Ji Lei

Ji Lei

Hi, my name is Ji Lei. I came from Sichuan, a province in the southeast of China. Sichuan is known as ‘Land of Abundance’, boasting the largest population in China, with 87 million people.  Bordered by the Tibetan Plateau in the west and by the Three Gorges and the Yangtze River in the east, Sichuan is also one of the biggest provinces of the China in area. It has three places on the World Cultural and Natural Heritage List: Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area, Huang Long Valley (Yellow Dragon Valley) and Mount Emeishan including Leshan Giant BuddhaChinese Flag

Sichuan is the home of Giant Pandas. The Giant Pandas you might have seen in Smithsonian National Zoological Park came from there. There is only less than 1000 giant pandas survived in the world and 85% of them are found in Sichuan Province. Chengdu Giant Panda Research Base, which is located in the capital of Sichuan, is one of the most important centers in the world for the captive conservation of the Giant Panda.

Sichuan is also well-known for its food. Characterized by spicy and pungent flavors, Sichuan Cuisine is famous all over the world. In Sichuan, almost any restaurant can offer you delicious dishes as eating has rich culture there and almost everyone is a good cooker. Typical menu items include Hot Pot, Mapo Dofu and Kung Pao Chicken. There are a wide variety of dishes you can choose from. It is said that one who does not experience Shichuan food has never reached Sichuan.

I miss my hometown very much, especially the food.  I am currently an undergraduate student at Kutztown University, majoring in Accounting. I like the university very much. People in Kutztown are very friendly and helpful.
