System of Higher Education Board of Governors also approved a new
Bachelor of Science in Music Education degree
program for Kutztown University in July 2003. A prospective student must be
admitted to both the University
and Music Department.
Auditions and Placement Examinations in Music for the Department of Music are
held between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM on the Saturdays above.
You are encouraged to contact the member of the Kutztown University Department of Music faculty who teaches your instrument with any questions or concerns about your audition.
Tape Auditions
While personal auditions are encouraged, tape-recorded auditions may be
submitted. In the case of a taped audition, placement examinations for music
will be given when you attend the summer Connections orientation program.
Audition Requirements
Applicants are encouraged to contact the applied Professor in their instrument/area to discuss the audition requirements.
Generally, all prospective
students auditioning should be prepared to perform the following:
Instrumentalists:
Two contrasting pieces from the standard repertoire (no accompaniment is necessary).

You will also be required to interview with the music faculty. Be prepared to discuss your musical background, career goals, music, general areas of interest, and why you want to study music at Kutztown University. This is also a chance for you to ask questions about the University, the Music Program, and campus life.
Placement** examinations are held in the following:
- Music Theory and Harmony

**These are diagnostic examinations to determine placement in Music courses
and are considered as part of acceptance in the degree program.
