Dr. Ina Grapenthin, a native of Reading, PA, is
nationally known as an organ clinician, organ concert artist and
author. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Ithaca
College School of Music, a Master's Degree in Organ and Sacred Music from the University of Michigan and a Master's Degree in
Education and the Doctorate of Education from Columbia University in New
York City. Dr. Grapenthin also attended Oberlin Conservatory and holds a
Performance Certificate from the Hoch Schule fur Musik in Berlin, Germany.
She has studied with notable organists Michael Schneider at the Hoch
Schule fur Musik, Robert Clarke at the University of Michigan, Frederick
Swann at the Riverside Church in New York and pedagogy with Robert Pace at
Columbia University.
Dr. Grapenthin has been a Professor of Music at Kutztown University
since 1978. During her tenure at the University she developed the Kutztown
Academy for Church Organists and has directed field classes for church
organists internationally. Dr. Grapenthin has been a Director of Music and
Organist in churches since the age of eleven and is currently serving
St.John's Lutheran Church, Kutztown, PA. She also teaches Music for
Elementary Education, Private and Class Piano, Basic Concepts and Skills
Introduction to Music and British Music.
Ina is a frequent contributor to Crescendo and Ensemble, publications
for church musicians. In August of 2000 her article concerning the
importance of music in the life of young children, entitled Music for the
Brain, appeared in the Central PA Magazine. She is the author of the book
Mr. Mouse Discovers the Magic of Music, a pre-school music
curriculum that she implements at the Pennsylvania Academy of Music in
Lancaster, PA. Recently an organ CD, entitled Prestant, was released.
Dr. Grapenthin has been affiliated with the Baldwin Piano and Organ
Company in Loveland, Ohio and Church Organ Systems
of Baldwin, Wisconsin
since 1984 as a consultant and concert artist in church music.
