Dr. Timothy Running served as the conductor of the
University Orchestra for 20 years, and now coaches the KU Flute Choir and the KU
Woodwind Quintet, in addition to teaching applied flute lessons. He also serves
as the chairperson for the Department of Music Scholarship Committee and the
department’s Promotion and Tenure Committee.
As
a professional flutist, Dr. Running was a member of The United States Army Band,
Pershing’s Own in Washington D.C. He has performed in numerous orchestras
and chamber music ensembles, and he is also a flute clinician.
Dr. Running has conducted orchestras and bands at Music Festivals from Maryland
to Colorado, and he conducted the 2006 Pennsylvania District Ten Orchestra.
Three times Dr. Running has conducted the Baltimore County High School Honors
Orchestra in Meyerhoff Hall in Baltimore, Maryland.
Timothy Running was born in Moorhead, Minnesota, where he graduated from
Concordia College with the Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance and
music education. He earned the Master of Music degree in flute performance from
Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and the Doctor of Arts
degree in conducting from the University of Northern Colorado where his doctoral
dissertation earned the Graduate Dean’s Citation for Excellence. |
