KU Band Day 2004
August 10, 2004
Dear Colleague:
Please consider this letter as invitation for your marching band to attend the 2004 Band Day at Kutztown University on the morning and afternoon of Saturday, October 16th, 2004. The morning will begin with a brief welcome from both University and Music Department Faculty and Staff, followed by a brief warm-up and mass band rehearsal.
Lunch will be provided for each member of your group, with the mealtime also giving your students opportunities to speak with KU members and learn more about the pride of becoming a member of the KU Marching Unit. Following the meal, bands will have a brief opportunity to do additional tuning / warm-ups, and prepare for entering the stadium. Kick-off for the football game between Kutztown University and East Stroudsburg University will be 1:05 PM. Each band will be given the opportunity to play stand tunes for half a quarter during the football game and will perform at half time with the KU Marching Unit in a Mass Block Band on the field. The music will be sent to participating schools before the event. The first two bands to register may also have the opportunity of performing their field-show during the KU pre-game festivities.
We are aware not only of travel costs to come to our beautiful campus, but also of scheduling conflicts that may arise with Marching Exhibitions and Competitions that your band may already be involved in on that day. Therefore, we are offering your band $200 to defer transportation costs. Kutztown University is also conveniently located approximately 20 to 30 minutes from Schuylkill Haven, PA, and 30 to 40 minutes from Pottstown, PA, for those bands that may be performing in the T.O.B. Competitions that evening at 6 pm. If your band is attending either of those events, please check the appropriate box on the attached registration form so we may have the opportunity to schedule your band to play stand tunes earlier in the game so you may leave when needed.
Due to large interest in the KU Band Day, we will be limiting this day to only six High School Band Programs, so this will be on a first-come, first-served basis. We are very eager to have the opportunity of working with your fine marching Band program and hope you are able to attend. Any questions, concerns, or comments can be sent to us via e-mail at kumu@kutztown.edu or justeson@kutztown.edu. You will find the registration form attached to this letter. We thank you for your interest, and look forward to seeing you on October 16th!
Sincerely,
| Russell J. Zera
