Symphonic Band
The University Band program is comprised of a Marching Band and a Concert Band during the fall semester; a Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble during the spring semester.
The Kutztown University Symphonic Band specializes in music written for the full instrumentation of the symphonic band medium. The Symphonic Band functions only in the spring semester and is lead by Dr. John Metcalf. The Symphonic Band performs a wide variety of Wind band literature: standard repertoire, recently published compositions, and selections from festival lists. The Symphonic Band is comprised of students from all facets of university life, regardless of major, who wish to continue making music throughout their collegiate years. Symphonic Band members typically include music majors, non-music majors, and music majors performing on secondary instruments. The Symphonic Band rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30-5:45 and performs one concert in the spring term. No audition is required to participate in the Symphonic Band, but auditions for principal chairs and chair placement take place at the conclusion of the fall term along with the auditions for the Wind Ensemble. The Wind Ensemble is comprised of the top wind, brass, and percussion students from the symphonic band program.
