Wind Ensemble
The University Band program is comprised of a Marching Band and a Concert Band during the fall semester; a Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble during the spring semester.
The Kutztown University Wind Ensemble is comprised of the top woodwind, brass, and percussion students from the symphonic band program who have demonstrated a commitment to a high level of musicianship.
The Wind Ensemble functions only in the spring semester. Rehearsals are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from
3:00 - 3:50. Membership is open to students of all majors by audition. These auditions take place in late November or early December of each fall term. Audition music, determined by the applied faculty, will be available through the music office approximately one week prior to the auditions. Audition sign ups will be posted outside the rehearsal hall, Old Main 31, at the same time music is made available.
The Wind Ensemble performs two on campus concerts each spring term as well as at various community and outreach events. The Wind Ensemble seeks to expose its audiences and membership to the finest wind literature, including the “classics” of the repertoire, transcriptions, and new works by both established and young, up-and-coming composers. The ensemble is active in commissioning new compositions for the wind medium and recently joined a consortium to commission a new work by Donald Grantham. Outstanding student, faculty, and visiting artists typically appear as soloists with the Wind Ensemble.
