The Music Department enjoys a fully renovated rehearsal and classroom area that received its formal dedication on October 18, 1997. The C-Wing of Old Main includes the Georgian Room, the Instrumental Rehearsal Room, the Music Technology Lab and the Percussion Suite. New with the renovation to Old Main, the Music Technology Lab offers exciting opportunities for students interested in gaining experience in music produced with the aid of technology. The Lab also offers computer aided instruction for several of the courses in the Music Department course offerings.
The incorporation of technology into the curriculum of the Music Department began in 1991. The Technology Lab provides students with the ability to experience computer generated music, electronic music, computer aided instruction in music theory and aural skills, and the simulation of acoustic compositions and arrangements through computer generated sounds.

The V-Room is simply amazing. Imagine a practice room that will acoustically simulate
several performing environments from a Baroque Chamber Hall to a Cathedral to a spacious Arena instantly with just a touch of a button. Sound too good to be true. The V-Room is just such a practice area. We understand that there are only about 200 of these practice rooms in the world and KU is fortunate to be able to offer this unique practice space to our music students.
It is truly a room that must be experienced. For more information about the V-Room, contact the Wenger Corporation.
The Music Technology Lab is open to all approved music students.
Students enrolled in MUS 310 (Composition and Arranging) and MUS 303 (Electronic Music Composition) will be required to complete assignments through the use of equipment in the Technology Lab. Additional opportunities for computer aided instruction in the Music Department curriculum will become available as the technology develops and is introduced into current course offerings.
