Located nearly equidistant from the Jazz Capitals of New York City and Philadelphia, Kutztown University sits among the rolling hills and farm land of eastern Pennsylvania.
Close enough to the cities for a weekend trip to hear the best in the world perform, yet situated in a pastoral environment perfect for concentrating on becoming the
best musician one can become.
KU Jazz Studies fosters an atmosphere of cooperation and the exchanging of ideas among its students while offering them performing opportunities with the demands and exactness they will find in the professional world.
"the Kutztown University
Jazz Program is exceptionally comprehensive & energetic.
For the prospective musician & educator, it offers a great opportunity to learn
where the music has been, and
where it's going!"

Down Beat Winner!
Kristin Grassi, the featured vocalist with Kutztown University Jazz Ensemble I, has been awarded Down Beat Magazine's Best College Vocalist for 2007. The Down Beat Student Music Awards are widely considered the most prestigious award given to college music students. Kristin can be heard on three KU Jazz Ensemble recordings: Home for the Holidays, Dance You Monster, and The Best is Yet to Come - The Music of the Rat Pack.
According to Down Beat magazine, which has been awarding the Student Music Awards for nearly 30 years, the competition for the awards has never been more fierce, with entries from many of the the country's most prestigious jazz programs. Winners are chosen through submitted recordings in a blind format, meaning the panel of prestigious judges have no prior information of the entries' origin.
Kristin studies jazz voice with KU Jazz Studies faculty member Cathy Chemi and classical voice with KU Department of Music faculty Dr. Trucilla Sabatino.
