Kimiko Tanaka, Ph.D. Social Work Department

Biographical Statement:
Dr. Kimoko Tanaka is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Work. She has research interest in individuals and their families coping with serious mental illness with a focus on resilience and support. As part of her dissertation, she conducted an original cross-national study (U.S. and Japan) on life experiences of individuals whose sibling has a mental illness and investigated the role of social support vis-à-vis their resilience. Her recent focus has been the clubhouse model of psychiatric rehabilitation. She is currently engaged in clubhouse-related research, titled "Coping with serious mental illnes: Clubhouse work-ordered day and recovery." Her ambition is to expand to international clubhouse research.
