Audition Requirements
Please sign up for a 5 minute audition slot. The sign up sheet will be posted on Tuesday, January 25. Please try to sign up for the earliest slots first and try not to leave large gaps between auditions--as that means I spend a lot of time twiddling my thumbs waiting for the next audition.
Bring a prepared audition piece not to exceed 2 and 1/2 minutes. It should be from a contemporary comedy. It does not have to be memorized...but should be if possible. Memorized or not--the piece should exhibit that you have a clear grasp of character, situation, comedic timing, and beat definition.
This is a farce so I'm looking for people who can find variety within the forced, somewhat shrill tonality and energy level required of farce...that "out of control" quality that is, in actuality, expertly controlled and technically proficient.

Synopsis
Time: 1953. Place: Erlanger Theatre, Buffalo NY. George and Charlotte Hay are a husband and wife acting team in the Lunt/Fontaine tradition. Somewhat past their prime, they continue to eke out an existence playing repertory on the regional theatre circuit. Just as Charlotte walks out on George for reportedly getting the company engenue pregnant, a call comes that Ronald Coleman has broken both legs while shooting The Twilight of the Scarlet Pimpernel and leading lady Greer Garson has walked the production. It seems the director, Frank Capra, is thinking about casting George in the Coleman role--and George is sure he can get Charlotte into the Garson role; but Charlotte has already disappeared. The disappointment leads George to tie one on. The company desperately searches for George and attempts to sober him up and get him on-stage for the matinee performance of Private Lives which Capra is to attend before finalizing the contract. What no one knows is that George thinks the matinee is supposed to be Cyrano de Bergerac. George shows up on stage dressed as Cyrano while everyone else is attempting Private Lives; the pregnant young lady's brother is reportedly in the theatre to kill George, and Capra is reportedly in the house--a farcical recipe for disaster.
