Dr. Darrell H. Garber
Prior to coming to Kutztown University, Darrell Garber served as the Dean of the College of Education at Tennessee Technological University for seven years where he taught an online master’s degree in literacy. Prior to assuming the deanship, he served as Associate Dean and Chair of the School of Education at Northern Kentucky University in the greater Cincinnati area. He moved to Northern Kentucky from Columbia College in South Carolina where he served as faculty and Director of the South Carolina Collaborative on Education. He has also served as faculty at Northwestern State University in Louisiana and Louisiana Tech University. He has published many articles, presented at numerous conferences and received grant support.
Dr. Garber has been Supervisor of Language Arts for New Orleans Public Schools and a high school English, reading and journalism teacher in Anderson, South Carolina. His master’s and bachelor degrees are from Clemson University. Dr. Garber received his Ed.D. from the University of Tennessee in 1978. He has published and presented on the topics of school finance, school leadership and accreditation.
In addition to his other duties, Dr. Garber has served as a member of the Board of Examiners for the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). In this role, he has served on, and chaired, accreditation teams in various states. He has also served as consultant to universities and colleges on the accreditation process.
Darrell is married to Mary Littlejohn-Garber of Reading, PA, who is self employed as a researcher and consultant for the insurance industry. He has one grown stepson, Kris, who lives with his wife and daughter in Myrtle Beach.
Dr. Garber is a licensed, commercial pilot with instructor rating. However, these days, he is devoting his time to boating. He is an avid reader and history buff.
