Allan Bäck
 

Dr. Bäck received his B. A. in philosophy (Phi Beta Kappa) from Reed College, and his Ph. D. in philosophy from The University of Texas at Austin.  He has published widely in such areas as the history and philosophy of logic, ancient philosophy, medieval philosophy, and comparative philosophy.  His first book received a prize from VG–Wort.  In 1999 he received a Forschungspreis from the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung for his research, and is occasionally in residence at the University of Freiburg.  He has also taken an American Philosophical Association Fellowship for the Institute for Advanced Studies at Edinburgh University in Scotland.  Kutztown University has given him the Chambliss Research lifetime achievement award. He also has some teaching awards, including one from the World Taekwondo Federation.  He is a Professor at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania of philosophy where he teaches philosophy courses and martial arts classes.  He has taught at other schools, including Rice University and Emory University. His hobbies include the martial arts, cooking, shodo and hircology.

Allan Bäck has written many articles and four books on a variety of topics-including a recent one on Aristotle and Plato.  He has been awarded a Senior Humboldt Research Prize
