The "Chat" tool is used to facilitate synchronous communication. Your instructor may use this tool to hold group meetings, brainstorming sessions, and other group activities using text-based chat.
Accessing a Chat Session
- Access the "Chat" tool by clicking the "Chat" link on your course "Navigation Bar." Please note that your professor may not be using chat in his course.

- Select the chat you wish to join. In the example below, there is one chat link labeled "Test chat."

The Chat Window
- The "Participants" pane displays a list of users currently signed in to a chat room. In the example below, Bill Smith is participating in the chat.
- To add an entry in the chat, type in the text box at the bottom of the chat room, and click the Send button.
- To change the display order of messages, use the options in Chat Settings.
