The College of Visual and Performing Arts provides the opportunity for study and career preparation in the Visual Arts, Music, Speech and Theatre. There are three programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree (Music, Speech and Theatre), four programs leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (Communication Design, Crafts and Studio Art) and a Bachelor of Science program in Art Education designed for the preparation of art teachers.

THE COLLEGE MISSION
The Mission of the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Kutztown University is to engage its students in the development of arts, skills, critical thinking, historical perspectives, problem-solving, individual growth and academic excellence to prepare them to contribute to the diverse global environment. The College of Visual and Performing arts will educate the students in a wide variety of visual and performing art forms, while maintaining a commitment to academic excellence. The college will also help students develop specialized visual and verbal communication skills critical thinking and problem solving skills.
ART/DESIGN UNIT MISSION AND GOALS
Within the College of Visual and Performing Arts, the programs in Art Education and Crafts, Fine Arts, and Communication Design function as the Art/Design Unit. These programs have developed the following Mission and Goals appropriate to their common purposes:
MISSION:
The visual arts unit of the College of Visual and Performing Arts is dedicated to providing a diverse community of post-secondary students with excellent opportunities for learning in and through the arts. The unit prepares students by developing their technical skills, aesthetic sensibilities, creative insight, critical faculties, and historical perspectives, and by providing cultural opportunities, and community and professional experiences needed to integrate the arts throughout their lives. The unit is committed to leadership in the arts through its degree and certification programs, general education coursework, outreach programs, cross-cultural exchanges, and community partnerships.
GOALS:
To provide excellent programming that is commensurate with and responsive to contemporary practices in the visual arts.
To provide students with the knowledge, concepts, skills, and dispositions to continue professional, personal and artistic growth.
To develop a community that values scholarship, artistic production, and other professional practices.
To provide an environment that promotes excellence in the study of the visual arts and related fields
To position the university within the community as a leader in visual arts related initiatives.
To provide students and faculty with experiences with diverse cultures, with an emphasis on their visual imagery.
To foster an environment that values human diversity.
To promote the use of existing and emerging technologies to achieve the unit’s mission.
