John White,
Department Chair & Professor
Dr. John Howell White is the Chair of the Department and Professor of Art Education. He was awarded his Ph.D. in Art Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He received a Getty Doctoral Fellowship for his dissertation, "Truth and Community: Constructing the Cultural Self." Dr. White received his M.F.A. in painting from Pratt Institute and taught art in secondary settings in Pittsburgh, PA and Los Angeles, CA. Dr. White serves as Director-Elect for the National Art Education Association. He is known in the field for his work in the history and theory of art education, which he has published in Studies in Art Education, Art Education, Visual Arts Research, and Translations.
