The KUET was established in the early 1970s as a way for equine enthusiasts to compete on an equal basis with other riders regardless of gender, experience level, or financial means. Our governing body is the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. The ideals of the original framework were to provide an appropriate competitive environment for collegiate equestrians while "leveling the playing field" with regard to the notion that the most expensive horse wins. This is accomplished quite easily through the format of the IHSA.
Competitions are arranged at various locations using different horses, saddles,
and arenas as much as possible. Riders are paired with their horses using
a random drawing system. You mount your horse and proceed directly to
the show arena; there is no warm-up.
