The goal of this project is to improve the quality of the career development package submitted by those psychology majors who select the career development option as one component of their senior comprehensive evaluation (the document link below provides access to the Department of Psychology's Senior Comprehensive Evaluation document). During Summer 2009, psychology faculty articulated and developed common criteria and an assessment rubric for the career portfolio assignment. The rubric, along with resource information, was then provided to seniors in Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 to use in constructing their career portfolios. In the next phase (Summer 2010), the plan calls for personnel from Career Services to conduct blind evaluations in which they rate the quality of résumés and personal statements from approximately 20 psychology career packets submitted before Fall 2009 (without the rubric) and 20 submitted after Fall 2009 (with the rubric). In addition to benefiting performance on the career portion of the psychology senior comprehensive, the use of rubrics should also benefit the achievement of career-related learning objectives in PSY 380 Senior Seminar. The career portfolio assignment and associated rubric, as well as the department's procedures for senior comprehensive evaluations, can be found by downloading the following document and scrolling to the end:
