When will I get my summer session tuition bill? Summer payment is expected at the point of registration. Notifications will be emailed to students monthly to advise them to review their bill online and make any payments due. Course registrations may be removed due to non-payment. You can contact the Bursar's Office multiple ways:
Kutztown University I want to use Financial Aid to pay my bill - how can I do this? If a student is interested in obtaining Financial Aid to pay their summer registration, they need to complete a "Golden Rod Summer Aid Application" form in the Financial Aid office. This should be done immediately even if you are just "thinking" about taking summer classes and may want Financial Aid. These forms can take 1-2 weeks to evaluate just to see if the student MAY have Financial Aid eligibility left from the academic year. Summer sessions are considered a trailer to the academic year, so if a student received the maximum they were awarded in Fall and Spring, they may not have any aid eligibility for the summer. After the form is evaluated, a copy is sent to the Bursar's Office to have on file - the results on this form will determine if the student may have enough potential aid for a deferment until mid-May when grades determine final eligibility. Once Spring grades are posted, all Golden Rod applications are reviewed again for Financial Aid progress. The Financial Aid office will send a final determination to the student AND the Bursar's Office showing what aid the student may be getting or not getting. At this point the student will need to make payment of the balance owed, sign up for the payment plan, or drop the course to relieve fiscal responsibility.
What are my payment options if I am not receiving Financial Aid? You can pay:
Are there payment plans available? We heard your feedback and desires and are pleased to announce a Summer payment plan to be administered by Sallie Mae! Cost of plan = $ 35.00 - one plan available for both summer sessions 4 payments with due dates as follows: TBA soon - sorry no customization of dates is possible You can join at anytime with "catch up" payments - you must be signed up and timely with your payments to avoid getting dropped from your schedule on the DROP date for your session. You can change your plan amount as needed throughout the summer - so if you add or drop a class you can increase or decrease your plan, if you receive financial aid you can increase or decrease your plan as needed - just contact Sallie Mae to do this. Sign up online only - Sallie Mae Remember, just as with the Fall and Spring - payments will show on your account at KU about one month after you make the payment to Sallie Mae. We can log in and verify payments before each drop date. Employer Reimbursement Deferment option - This is still offered in the Summer Sessions - see the tab to the left for what must be supplied and when (request when you register so you don't forget and lose your schedule) - Due date for Summer sessions is Sept 15, 2012. I am expecting aid and I don’t see it online - what’s wrong? Summer aid cannot be confirmed until a student's Spring 2012 grades are posted. These grades are necessary to determine Financial Aid eligibility as the student must still be making financial aid progress (completed vs. attempted credits, progress and GPA) in order to receive Aid in the summer. If you have concerns on your eligibility you can discuss them with the Financial Aid office 610-683-4077. If you are NOT eligible for Financial Aid, you will need to pay us directly in full, sign up for the payment plan with Sallie Mae, or investigate Alternative Loans. Recent regulation changes have lengthened the processing time for alternative loans, we highly encourage you to apply as soon as you can (can take 4-6 weeks). Summer aid is processed a bit differently than the academic year. If your Final Determination shows you are getting Stafford loans, when we actually get those loans is determined by when you reach the 6th credit that makes you eligible for them (remember to receive Stafford loans you have to take a minimum of 6 credits). For example, if you are taking 3 credits in Summer session 1 and 3 credits in Summer session 2 - the 6th credit that makes you eligible for Stafford loans is occurring in session 2 and that is when your loans would disburse - not before. Plan accordingly for book expenses - no refunds from overpayment on your account can be issued until your account is actually in overpayment status and the aid has disbursed.
Contact Financial Aid to discuss what their records show and for guidance with
summer aid – 610-683-4077 or
financialaid@kutztown.edu.
What is a courtesy credit? Normally we show courtesy credits of anticipated aid online so that you can calculate the amount you owe. Please discuss your financial aid needs with their office, if you are eligible for aid, they will show it on the MyKU system after Spring 2012 grades post - exact date is not known by the Bursar's Office. What can affect my financial aid? ANY changes to your schedule MAY impact the aid you have been awarded or even received. If changes are made after the aid has posted – we may be obligated to return a portion of, or all of your aid based on your change. For this reason, we highly encourage any student making changes or withdrawals to check with the Financial Aid office to discuss your aid situation first. If you have received a refund and make changes later - some or all of that refund may be owed back to KU as we may have to return your loan to your lender.
