Fire Alarm Panel: Simplex 4100 U Fire Alarm

General Description:  Fire alarm devices include addressable manual pull stations, smoke and/or heat detection in common areas and mechanical spaces, visual/audible alarm devices and integrated automatic detection devices that monitor related systems such as fire sprinkler systems.  Each residence sleeping area is equipped with an addressable smoke detector/sounder base, which sounds in the room to alert the occupant to a possible fire condition.  All alarm conditions sound at the complex alarm panel and at the monitoring station located at the University’s police communications center.

Fire Alarm Testing and Inspection: Individual components of the fire alarm system are tested biannually by SimplexGrinnell-certified fire alarm technicians in accordance with NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm Code.

 

AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

Type of System: Automatic sprinkler monitored by the fire alarm system.

Coverage: Building is fully sprinklered in accordance with NFPA 13R, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Residential Occupancies. Standpipes have been installed to permit the fire department to connect hoses for fire suppression operations.

Automatic Sprinkler System Inspection: The automatic sprinkler system is inspected annually, by NICET-certified inspection technicians, in accordance with NFPA 25, Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems.

 

 

PORTABLE FIRE SUPPRESSION EQUIPMENT

Portable Fire Extinguishers: Fire extinguishers are located throughout the building in accordance with NFPA 10, Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers.

Portable Fire Extinguisher Inspections: Fire extinguishers located in residence halls are inspected monthly by the Office of Environmental Health & Safety. Annual inspection and maintenance is conducted by a qualified vendor in accordance with NFPA 10, Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers.


 

SMOKE CONTROL/FIRE DOORS

Fire Doors:  This building is equipped with self closing fire doors that must be kept closed at all times.

Smoke Control Doors:  There are no smoke control doors in this building.
