National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education,
Orlando, Fla.
Dr. Richard S. Courtney,
chair, Department of Geography, participated in the 2008 AAG
Department Leadership Workshop held June 20-21, 2008 at the
University of California, Los Angeles. The workshop is part of the
Healthy Departments Initiative of the Association of American
Geographers.

Responsibility Conference from Sept., 23–25, 2008.

Dean of the College of Business, and Dr. David A. Haas,
Interim Associate Dean, attended the Mid-Atlantic Association of
Colleges of Business Administration’s Annual Conference in
Washington, D.C., Oct. 12-14, 2008.

Dean of the College of Business, visited Slippery Rock University (SRU)
in the role of the AACSB’s mentor to SRU concerning progress toward
achieving AACSB accreditation, Oct. 1-2, 2008.
Dr. Michael Downing,
Department of English, attended the American Drama Conference at St.
Francis College in Brooklyn, N.Y., Nov. 2008.
The conference consisted of numerous panels and presentations which
focused on American Playwrights like David Mamet, Tennessee
Williams, August Wilson, Edward Albee, and Arthur Miller. It
featured spirited discussion on issues of sexuality, race, and
family dynamics in theater. Downing is teaching the graduate course
Major 20th Century American Drama during the spring term.

Department of Nursing, attended a program entitled “The Path to
Learning: Strategies to Energize Nurse Educators,” on Oct. 20, 2008,
in Bethlehem, Pa. The program was sponsored by the Pennsylvania
League for Nursing, Area 2, and awarded 2.5 contact hours.

Pennsylvania Association of Undergraduate Social Work Education,
Philadelphia, Pa., on Oct. 30, 2008.

Associate Director of Intercollegiate Athletic Services, attended
the 2008 National Association of Collegiate Women’s Athletic
Administrators (NACWAA) conference in Atlanta, Ga. from Oct. 11–14,
2008.
Brenda Innocenti,
Department of Communication Design, attended the One Club Conference
for Educators of Creative Advertising in New York on July 16 and 17,
2008. The One Club is the premier national organization for
advertising creative professionals.
Dr. Mary Laub,
Department of Elementary Education, June 19-21, 2008, attended the
Keystone State Reading Association (KSRA) Leadership and Board of
Directors Meeting in State College, Pa. As part of the proceedings,
Laub attended workshops related to literacy. In addition, as KSRA
vice president and KSRA Conference 2009 chairperson, she reported on
the 2009 conference plans. In her role as International Involvement
Chairperson, she reported on the committee’s activities.

Elmhurst, N.Y. Laub participated in workshops related to literacy
conducted by noted reading researchers.

President of the PASSHE GIS Consortium, chaired the fall meeting of
the consortium. The meeting was held in conjunction with the
Pennsylvania Geographical Society at Clarion University on Oct. 31,
2008.

Educators with Teaching Strategies for Long Term Memory and Clinical
Teaching” on Oct. 20, 2008, in Bethlehem, Pa. The program was
sponsored by the Pennsylvania League of Nursing, District 2, and
awarded 2.5 contact hours.
