Dr. Bobbie Berry and Dr. Mary Ann O’Neil, both of the Department of Elementary Education, 2008 National Conference. Presentation published on NCEI Web site “Teacher Preparation – Beyond the Textbook.”  

Dr. Gary Cordner, Department of Criminal Justice, co-authored the book, “Police & Society,” 4th edition (Oxford University Press), and was published in July 2008. 

Dr. Gary Cordner, Department of Criminal Justice, had an article published: “Targeting the Fear of Crime,” Community Policing Dispatch 1, 12 (December 2008), on-line at http://www.cops.usdoj.gov/html/dispatch/December_2008/crime_fear.htm (Newsletter of the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, U.S. Department of Justice). 

David Cullen, Department of Music, released his 10th CD on Solid Air Records entitled “Guitar Travels.” 

Dr. Charles Cullum, Department of English, “The Blue Stone, Heidegger, and ‘I’: The Issue of Identity in Paul Auster’s ‘The Book of Illusions,’” in the Nov. 1, 2008, issue of EAPSU ONLINE, a peer-reviewed electronic journal.  

Dr. Charles Cullum, Department of English, written essay, "Rebels, Conspirators, and Parrots, Oh My!: Lacanian  Paranoia and Obsession in Three Postmodern Novels" has been accepted for publication by the journal Critique: Studies in Contemporary Fiction.  

Dr. Mary Ann Dailey, chair, Department of Nursing, had the following articles published in the October issue of Pennsylvania Nurse, the official publication of the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association:. “Mastering the Art of Politics,” Pennsylvania Nurse, 63(3), pp.4-7; “Those Who Served: Nurse members in the PA House of Representatives,” Pennsylvania Nurse, 63(3), pp. 9-11. 

Lisa Frye, Department of Computer Science, co-authored a book chapter, “Topology Management for Wireless Sensor Network,” in “Handbook of Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks,” with L. Cheng, Springer (London). Edited by Sudip Misra, Isaac Woungang, and Subhas C. Misra. end of 2008. 

Dr. Amir H. Jafri, Department of Speech Communication & Theatre, published “Honour Killing: Dilemma, Ritual, Understanding,” in November 2008. Publisher is Oxford University Press. 

Dr. Robert N. Martin, Department of Geography, had his review of “Globalized Freight Transport:  Intermodality, E-Commerce, Logistics and Sustainability,” Thomas Leinbach and Cristina Capineri, eds., was published in The Professional Geographer, Vol. 60, No. 4, November 2008. 

Kevin McCloskey, Department of Communication Design, wrote about Berks County tomato farmer, Tim Stark, for the online magazine, Commonsense2, September 2008, issue. His essay, “Riding Shotgun with Tim Stark,” was an account of a journey by truck with Mr. Stark from his farm near Kutztown to produce markets in the Bronx, N.Y

Kevin McCloskey, Department of Communication Design, Sept.1, 2008. Interviewed Berks County farmer, Tim Stark, author of the new book, “Heirloom: Notes from an Accidental Tomato Farmer.” The interview illustrated with photos by McCloskey appears in the monthly online journal, Commonsense2, September issue. 

Kevin McCloskey, Department of Communication Design, wrote an essay entitled, "Hasta Cosas Cambian/Until Things Change" about the UCLA Mexican print exhibition for the online magazine, Commonsense2.com. 

Dr. Marilyn Meder, Department of Nursing, is co-editor for Lilies of the Valley, the regional newsletter for parish nurses in the greater Allentown area. In this capacity Meder is a regular contributor of articles related to the Holistic Health and Spirituality. 

Dr. Mary Ogletree, Department of Music, on Sept. 13, 2008, served in the orchestra for the recording of a new opera by Paul Salerni and Dana Gioaia, titled “The Final Broadcast of Tony Caruso.” The CD will be released by Albany in spring 2009. 

Dr. Varsha Pandya, ACSW, Department of Social Work, June 19, 2008, wrote a paper titled "Changing Narratives: Effects of Group Intervention on Domestically Violent Men,” that was published in the Document CD prepared by the European Groupwork Chapter titled "Mensch.” 

Dr. Lyn Phy, Department of Mathematics, published “Using Technology to Promote Mathematical Discourse Concerning Women in Mathematics,” Mathematics Teacher, Volume 101, Number 8, p. 582-585, April 2008.

William Prystauk, Department of English, script, "Red Agenda" was announced as the First Place Winner at the International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival in Arizona (it was also a Top-Five Finalist at Screamfest in Los Angeles). October 2008. 

Dr. CJ Rhoads, Department of Accounting and Finance, authored an article titled “Things decision-makers aught to know, but don’t,” published in Eastern Pennsylvania Business Journal on Dec. 8, 2008. Volume 19, Issue Number 49, Page 31.

Dr. CJ Rhoads, Department of Accounting and Finance, authored an article titled “IT Spending in an Uncertain Economy,” published in MC Press Online on Nov. 10, 2008.

Dr. Joo Tan, Department of Computer Science, published in the May 2008 publication “A Case Study of Classroom Experiences with Client-Based Team Projects,” Journal of Computing Sciences in Colleges 2008, 23 [5].

Dr. William F. Towne, Department of Biology, and Heather Moscrip (KU ’08), had an article, “The connection between landscapes and the solar ephemeris in honey bees” accepted for publication in the Journal of Experimental Biology, in press, 2008.

Dr. Todd J. Underwood, Department of Biology, with S. G. Sealy, published the article “UV reflectance of eggs of brown-headed cowbirds (Molothrus ater) and accepter and rejecter hosts” in the Journal of Ornithology, 149:313-321, 2008. 

Dr. Francis Vasko, Department of Mathematics, and Ken Stott, retired Bethlehem Steel research manager, had their paper entitled "STRATEGIC PLANNING: OR TO THE RESCUE" published in OR Insight, Vol. 21, Issue 3 (fall issue), pp. 26-32. This paper describes an actual use of mathematical programming that had a significant impact on senior management decision making. This was Vasko's 50th professional publication.

Dr. John Walker, Department of Accounting and Finance, co-authored an article titled “Does Year-end Portfolio Restructuring by Community Banks Boost Shareholder Returns?” that was accepted for publication by The Journal of the Northeastern Association of Business, Economics and Technology.
