Heterogeneous Networks,” 2008-2009.
Amy Lynch-Biniek,
Department of English, was awarded the Patrick Hartwell Memorial
Scholarship for Composition Studies for her dissertation research at
Indiana University of Pennsylvania, July 2008.
Dr. Deborah Mandel,
Department of Nursing, successfully defended her dissertation and
was awarded a Doctoral Degree in Philosophy from Rutgers University
College of Nursing in October 2008. Her area of research is women’s
health across the life span, and her dissertation was on the “Lived
Experience of Single Middle-Aged Women Who Experience Complications
in a Planned Pregnancy.”

assistant director of Community Engagement, was named “Latino of the
Year” by the Puerto Rican Alliance of Allentown, Pa.
Jerry Schearer,
New Student Programs and Services, Nov. 11, 2008, was named Member
of the Year, Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, Salem, W.Va.
Dr. Gregory Setliff,
Department of Biology, was recognized on the professional journal
Zootaxa Web site for having one of the top-ten, most-accessed
papers from the journal’s Web site for five months in 2008
(February, April, July, August and September). The monograph
entitled “Annotated checklist of weevils of the Papuan region (Coleoptera:
Curculionidae)” published in 2007, was downloaded 5,901 times during
these five months, posted October 2008.
Dr. Heather Thomas,
Department of English, has been named Berks County Poet Laureate, an
honorary designation granted periodically for no set term. Poet
laureates have been asked to read at public events, especially
during the month-long Greater Reading Literary Festival at Reading
Area Community College, October 2008.
