Message
from the Director
GREAT NEWS – we now have
an on-line
alumni directory for your use and service. This will be a
great tool to help you stay in touch and network with your fellow
KU alumni.
KU
President Javier Cevallos and I enjoyed visiting our KU alumni
friends in Georgia and Florida in January and we look forward
to visiting our out of state friends in Arizona and California
in February. If you live in these areas please watch your mail
for a location near you and join us for dinner. We have heard
from many alumni in the southern states that weathered the devastating
hurricanes this past year. Counting their blessings in the face
of many trials they stand as a testament to the resiliency of
the human spirit. Bolstered by their courage I hope your lives
continue to be filed with the spirit of promise and fellowship
that we enjoyed during this past holiday season.
Looking
back at 2004 we enjoyed a very active alumni events schedule of
regional and on campus events. We celebrated the Brown vs. the
Board of Education landmark decision, hosted a diverse variety
of cultural and educational experiences and at Homecoming dedicated
the new Science Center. Speaking of Homecoming, we kicked off
new traditions such as our “tailgate city” reunions
and the newest version of our Friday night pep rally including
an impressive display of fireworks. Our next Homecoming will be
October 22, 2005. I hope you get a chance to return to KU and
be swept up in the Homecoming spirit and activities.
As
we settle into a new year of academic and alumni activity, please
try and find time to come back to campus and stay involved with
your alma mater. We really have a beautiful campus and when it
is alive with student activity it is a vibrant place full of vision
and energy. Your alumni office can serve as the gateway to your
visit back and provide you with a wealth of information to help
your visit be a fun and productive one.
Best Regards -

KU Connection
Have you lost touch with your old KU friends over the years? Looking
to locate other alumni in your area? Maybe you’re interested
in changing careers and want to be in touch with folks in that field.
Whatever the case, there is an easy new way to stay connected. Introducing
the KU Online Directory! Our new directory replaces the old Email-only
directory. This one is password protected so you can feel comfortable
that only those within the KU community will have access to your
information. You and you alone are completely in control of which
information you would like to have included in the directory. Share
as much or as little as you like. You will be able to search for
people by name, major, class year, geographic area, occupation,
clubs, sports, etc. Another new feature is the ability to enter
class notes right online for others to see. We’re very excited
to be able to offer this new service, but the directory is only
as good as the people in it and we need you! Sign
up today! |

Dane
Tilghman Returns to KU |
An
Artist at Hand, a Businessman at Heart
By Ritta M. Basu
For a casual observer of the arts, it
only takes a few minutes with Dane Tilghman to understand –
artists don’t have to be starving. Tilghman, a 1979 graduate
of Kutztown University’s communication design program,
spent two days back on campus in January, talking with students
and delivering a keynote address to the campus and community.
Tilghman calls art his life – his means of living and
his way of living. A means of living for Tilghman means marketing
his art in some very unique venues. You’ll find his depictions
of African-American individuals and families on everything from
coffee mugs and mouse pads to funeral home fans and church bulletins.

Advancing
Your University
What
is the KU Foundation?
The KU Foundation is a private corporation established as
the fund-raising agency of Kutztown University. The Foundation
was established in 1983 when the Kutztown College Foundation
and the George B. Hancher Endowment Fund were merged. This
merger brought all university fund-raising into one unified
effort. The Foundation status provides donors with the assurance
that their funds will be used only as they indicated and
that gifts cannot be controlled by the state. Foundation
resources are used to address University-identified needs.
