Jeppesen earns All-America honors, breaks three KU records

HOUSTON — Stephanie Jeppesen (jr. Bethlehem/Liberty) made a huge splash for the Kutztown University women's swimming team at the NCAA Division II championships at the University of Houston.

Jeppesen, who helped KU finish 21st out of 33 teams, earned All-America honors in her final event of the championships, while setting three KU school records she already owned.

Her silver medal finish in the 200-yard breaststroke was her best performance of the four-day event. She swam the event in 2:16.99 on Saturday, breaking her old record of 2:17.19, which she set at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference meet.

Jeppesen also had ninth- and 12th-place finishes at the NCAA championships this week.

In the 100 breaststroke, Jeppesen broke the record in the finals Friday, finishing ninth with a time of 1:03.94.

Jeppesen set the new KU school record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:06.28 in preliminaries Wednesday. She again improved on her own record with a finals time of 2:05.42, placing 12th, moving up four places from her qualifying seed.

She will return for her senior season at KU and will look to lead the Golden Bears after a record season, winning 11 meets under 13-year head coach Tim Flannery.

NCAA Division II National Championships
Steph Jeppesen to swim in three events at nationals

HOUSTON — Stephanie Jeppesen (jr. Bethlehem/Liberty) will represent the Kutztown University women's swimming team at the NCAA Division II national championships, swimming in three events this weekend.

The four-day event opens Wednesday at the University of Houston and will conclude Saturday.

Jeppesen, who owns the school records in all three events she will be competing in this weekend, will open the meet with the 200-yard individual medley on Wednesday. She will swim in prelims in the morning and the finals at 5:30 p.m.

Her best seeding for the weekend comes in the 200 breaststroke, which is scheduled for Saturday. Jeppesen is ranked fourth after swimming the event in 2:17.19 at the PSAC meet, where she placed second.

She's seeded eighth in the 100 breaststroke, scheduled for Friday, with a time of 1:04.38. She placed third in the event at the PSAC meet.

Jeppesen's record-breaking performance in the 200 IM at the PSAC meet with a time of 2:07.51 earned her a second-place finish and a 16th seed in the race Thursday.
