NCAA Division II Men's Atlantic Regionals: Preliminary Round
Millersville at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The Kutztown University men’s tennis team is rolling after winning
its eighth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title in 10 years.
The Golden Bears will open competition in the preliminary round of
the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regionals.
As the host and No. 1 seed, KU (13-4) will go up against
Millersville (10-8) at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Shaw (20-1) and Concord (14-5) will compete at 11 a.m.
The winner of each match will return to the Kutztown Courts for the
championship match at 1 p.m. Friday.
Lukas Labitsch (sr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA)
and Baquerizo, the MVP of the PSAC
tournament, have been KU’s top singles players. They both have built
eight-match winning streaks.
Labitsch if 15-6 on
the season, and Baquerizo is 12-3, including 9-3 at No. 1 singles.
Labitsch, along
with teammate
Arpit Sharma (jr. Kolkata, INDIA),
also have a streak going in doubles competition, winning their last
10 matches.
Andrew Torrealba (jr. Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan)
is 17-6 in singles
competition and Sharma is 11-3. Torreabla has won nine of his last
10 matches.

Kutztown vs. Slippery Rock

Bloomsburg, Pa.
BLOOMSBURG, Pa.
— The Kutztown University will face Slippery Rock University for
second straight time this season when they match up in the
preliminary round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regionals
Thursday at Bloomsburg.
KU lost to Slippery
Rock 5-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference consolation
match on April 25.
The two teams will
match up at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the winner advance to the
championship match Friday.
The Golden Bears
(11-5) defeated East Stroudsburg 5-3 in the first round, but fell to
California, the eventual PSAC Champion, 5-0 in the semifinals.
Slippery Rock
(20-4) lost to Bloomsburg in the PSAC semifinals.
Bloomsburg (13-5),
the runner-up to California, is hosting the preliminary round and
will face the winner of the play-in match between Virginia State
(14-4) and Elizabeth City State (12-6).
Four Golden Bears have posted double-digit wins on the season in
singles competition.
Rohini Das (jr. Calcutta, INDIA)
leads the way with an 18-5 record, while
Sabrina Arnaud (jr. Pintendre, CANADA)
is 14-4,
Barbara Joerns (jr. Ludwigshafen, GERMANY)
is 12-6 and
Nicole Devine (so. Allentown/Allentown Central Catholic)
is 12-3.
Das and Joerns are
9-6 in doubles matches and Arnaud and Devine are 9-5.
