ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — The Kutztown University men’s tennis team will open competition at the NCAA Division II Championships against Lynn University on Wednesday at Rollins College in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

The Golden Bears (15-4), fresh off their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title and an Atlantic Region-1 tournament title, are one of 16 teams remaining in Division II.

KU has won seven straight matches, led by Lukas Labitsch (sr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA), who recorded the match-clinching wins in both of the Golden Bears' regional matches last week.

Labitsch enters championship play riding a 10-game winning streak in singles, with the majority coming at the No. 3 spot. Labitsch and Arpit Sharma (jr. Kolkata, INDIA) have won all 12 of their doubles matches, primarily at No. 2 (10-0) and a few at No. 1 (2-0).

Also riding momentum into the championships is Santiago Baquerizo (sr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR). Baquerizo has nine straight wins in singles matches and won 12 of his last 13, four at No.2 and the rest as the No. 1 player.

In No. 3 doubles, Baquerizo and Jonathan Goulet (jr. Quebec, CANADA) have won 11 of their last 12 matches, including a current seven straight wins.

Andrew Torrealba (jr. Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan) has been strong in the No. 6 singles spot, winning six straight matches heading into the contest against Lynn.

Kaushik Das (Assam, INDIA) has been roaming around the top three spots in singles play, with the past five matches in the No. 1 spot. He has a 6-6 overall record in singles, and 9-4 record in doubles with Rubens Vianna (sr. Belo Horizonte/BRAZIL).

The Golden Bears first-round opponent Lynn University enters the contest with a record of 18-3, winners of the South Regional and ranked No. 2 nationally in the NCAA Division II.

The doubles team of Tomas Racak and Alex Voirin has 14 wins compared to no losses, while playing primarily out of the No. 2 (8-0) and No. 3 (6-0) spots.

In singles play, Racak holds a 13-3 record, including 12-3 record in the No. 2 spot. Voirin has seen play in the No. 2 through 6 spots, overall he has a singles record of 10-5.

The Fighting Knights No. 1 singles spot has been held by Julien Carsuzaa in all but one dual match. He has a record of 15-3. Carsuzaa has a record of 16-5 in the No. 1 doubles slot with three different teammates. He is unbeaten while playing with Alessandro Sarra (5-0) and has double-digit wins with Miloslav Navratil (10-5).

Lynn finished the season a perfect 6-0 in conference play; however, they dropped the Sunshine State Conference Championship title to Barry University.
