KUTZTOWN, PA -
Third seeded Mercy College defeated Queens (NY) College, 5-1, in the
first round of of the NCAA East Regional at Kutztown University on
Thursday.
The Flyers, ranked
#36 in Division II, won two of three doubles points, with Yusufcan
Koksal and Timon Prosper winning 8-3 at #2 doubles and Zeki Tukel
and Alican Seren winning 8-1 at #3. Queen's Wojciech Stuchlik
and William Almeyda won 8-4 at #1 doubles.
In singles, Tukel
won 6-2, 6-2 at second seed and Prosper picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at
sixth seed to make it 4-1 in favor of Mercy. Seren closed the
door with a 6-2, 6-1 decision at #3 singles.
Mercy improves to
10-3 on the year, and advances to face Kutztown in round two on
Friday at 1:00 PM. Queens' season comes to a close with a 9-8
record.

KUTZTOWN, PA -
Kutztown University's men's tennis team blanked visiting Bentley
College, 5-0, in the first round of the NCAA East Regional at
Keystone Courts Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Bears,
ranked #31 in Division II, swept all three doubles matches.
Santiago Baquerizo and Lukas Labitsch won 8-0 at #1, Lukas Beman and
Rubens Vianna won 8-3 at #2, and Gernot Gruss and Somdeep Appineni
won 8-3 at #3.
Gruss won in
straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at #4 singles, then Somdeep Appineni
finished off his opponent in the fifth seed match, 6-0, 6-1, to
complete KU's victory.
Kutztown improves
to 11-2 and will advance to Friday's second round to face Mercy at
1:00 PM. Bentley's season comes to a close with a 12-11
record.

KUTZTOWN, PA -
Timon Prosper won a three-set thriller at sixth singles to secure a
5-3 win for Mercy College over host Kutztown University, Friday in
the second round of the NCAA East Regional Men's Tennis tournament.
Mercy snapped
Kutztown's streak of five-straight East Regional championships, and
advances to face Armstrong Atlantic State in the NCAA Round of 16
May 9 in Altamonte Springs, Fl.
The Flyers swept
the three doubles points, with Vyacheslov Glebov and Carlos Ferreira
winning at #1, Yusyfcan Koksal and Timon Prosper winning at #2 and
Zeki Tukel and Alican Seren winning at #3.
Kutztown fought
back in singles, winning at seeds one, two and five. Santiago
Baquerizo and Lukas Labitsch won at the top two seeds, while Somdeep
won at #5.
Mercy's Alican
Seren recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win at #3 singles for a 4-3 lead, before
Prosper finished off a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 match at #6 singles for the
decisive team point.
Mercy improves to
11-3 on the year, while KU's season ends at 11-3.
