BLOOMSBURG, PA -
Kutztown University's men's tennis team won its fourth straight
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship, defeating
Millersville, 5-0, Saturday morning at Bloomsburg University.

Kutztown, under head
coach Suresh Ramamurthi, has now won or shared seven of the
last eight PSAC titles. Senior Lukas Beman was named
the tournament's most valuable player.
The Golden Bears swept
the three doubles matches. Santiago Baquerizo and
Lukas Labitsch defeated Greg Bennett and Chris Paolini 8-2 at
first doubles. Beman teamed with Rubens Vianna
to down Chris Matisse and Jim Treires, 8-3, at #2. At third
doubles, Somdeep Appineni and Gernot Gruss blanked
Mark Treires and Scott Smith, 8-0.
KU's seniors brought it
home in singles. Beman flew past Jim Treires at #4
singles, 6-0, 6-1. Appineni defeated Mark Treires, 6-1,
6-0, at fifth singles.
Baquerizo,
Labitsch, Gruss and Vianna all led their singles
matches when the decisive fifth team point was recorded, halting the
match.
Kutztown improves to
10-2 in dual meets this season. The Golden Bears will be in
action next for the NCAA East Regionals, at a site to be determined,
May 3-4.

Kutztown Advances to PSAC
Title Match
BLOOMSBURG, PA -
Kutztown University's men's tennis team moved a step closer to its
fourth-straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship
with a 9-0 win over East Stroudsburg in a semifinal match Friday
afternoon.
Kutztown advances to
Saturday's championship match against Millersville, which defeated
host Bloomsburg, 5-4, in the other semifinal.
Kutztown jumped out to
an early lead sweeping the three doubles points. Santiago
Baquerizo and Lukas Labitsch won 8-0 over Jeff Kurz and
Kyle Doebler at #1. Lukas Beman and Rubens Vianna
won 8-1 over Andrew Sorgi and Julian Taibi at #2. At third
doubles, Somdeep Appineni and Gernot Gruss won 8-2
over Rob Mikolon and Bill Powell.
In singles, Baquerizo
made short work of Kurz, 6-0, 6-0, at #1. Beman also
won 6-0, 6-0 at #4 singles over Sorgi. Labitsch won
6-2, 6-4 over Doebler at #2, Gruss downed Taibi 6-2, 6-1 at
#3; Appineni defeated Mikolon 6-0, 6-4 at #5; and Vianna won 6-0, 6-5 at #6 to round out the team
points.
Kutztown improves to 9-2
with the victory.
