SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. —  Santiago Baquerizo (jr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR) won the 2007 PSAC men's tennis singles championship on Sunday, defeating teammate Lukas Labitsch (jr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) in the finals.

Baquerizo and Labitsch both won semifinals Sunday morning to set up the all Golden Bear finale.  Baquerizo defeated Mitch Zenaty of Bloomsburg, 6-7, 7-2, (10-0); while Labitsch cruised past Jeff Nuhfer of Bloomsburg, 6-2, 6-4.  In the finals, Baquerizo recorded identical 6-2, 6-2 sets for the victory. 

The singles victory is the second in three years for Baquerizo, who won as a freshman before losing in the finals last fall.

Day 1 recap (Oct. 6, 2007)

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. —  Lukas Labitsch (jr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) and Santiago Baquerizo (jr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR), seeded No. 1, cruised through the semifinals and final to win the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Doubles title Saturday at Shippensburg.

Both players, who also are still alive in the men's singles bracket, defeated Millersville's Chris Matisse and Drew Slocum 8-5 before defeating Bloomsburg's Ryan Chow and Dan Gal 8-2 in the final.

Seeded No. 1, Baquerizo defeated Slocum 5-7, 6-0 (10-8) to advance to Sunday's semifinals. Labitsch, seeded No. 3, also advanced to the semifinals with wins over West Chester's Andrew Pollack (6-2, 6-1) and East Stroudsburg's Jeff Kurz (6-0, 6-1).
