ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The Golden Bears fell to UC-San Diego, 5-0, in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships.

UC-San Diego entered the competition ranked 11th in the country, with KU checking in at No. 29. 

At first doubles, Kerstin Kloeffer (so. Ludwigs Hafen, GERMANY) and Priya Pachkawde (so. Nasik, INDIA) lost for the first time together this season, falling 8-0 as the Tritons took a 1-0 lead.  KU fell behind 2-0 after Bianca Blatz (fr. Ludwigs Hafen, GERMANY) and Lauren Losoncy (jr. Shillington/Governor Mifflin) lost 8-1 at third doubles. 

Kutztown's Amy Withers (fr. Essendon, AUSTRALIA) and Jharna Nansi (so. Maharashtra, INDIA) nearly took a point at second doubles, but UCSD's duo eeked out the 9-7 win for the doubles sweep.

UC-San Diego's teams at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles were both nationally ranked.

The Tritons then won matches at both fifth and sixth singles to eliminate KU.  Kristen Bodalski (jr. Media/Cardinal O'Hara) fell, 6-0, 6-0, at fifth singles and Vanessa Walsh (fr. Scranton/Bishop Hannan) was dispatched 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 to seal the match and send UCSD to the quarterfinals.

The loss ends the Golden Bears' season.  Kutztown finished 14-3 with the second highest win total in school history.  The team's three losses were its fewest since the 1994 squad went 11-3.  Pachkawde set a KU record with 17 doubles victories, besting the record of 16 set by Margo Ayers in 1995-96.
