KU Women win first PSAC Indoor team title; Collins named men's Outstanding Field Athlete

The Golden Bear women won the first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Championship in school history with a total of 124 points.  On the men's side, Justin Collins earned Outstanding Field Athlete honors after winning both the long and triple jumps with NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
Three school records for the women's team were eclipsed at the meet, as were a pair of meet records.  Molly Lare set the KU record in the 3,000m with her time of 10:20.04, which placed her second.  She also finished fourth in the mile with a time of 5:12.02.  Both the 4x400 relay and 4x800 set school records.  Lauren Maxwell, Sara Otis, Madonna Patterson and Niya Adams teamed up for a 3:57.66 to win the 4x400, set a KU record and make the provisional time for the NCAA's.  Maxwell, Chelsea Thomas, Patterson and Janelle Kostishion comprised the winning and school-record 4x800 team with their time in 9:28.55.  Alison Maurer set a meet record in the weight throw with a toss of 52-8.  Candice Bullard cleared 5-03 1/2 to win the PSAC title in the high jump, while Kaleena Lockard's mark of 42-07 1/2 was the winner in the shot put.  In the 800, the trio of Patterson (2:15.78), Adams (2:16.61) and Maxwell (2:16.97) finished second, third and fourth, respectively, and all ran NCAA provisional times.

The KU men finished third with 88 points.  Collins won the long jump with a leap of 23-10 1/2 and the triple with his mark of 48-0 3/4.  Both were NCAA provisional marks.  In the pole vault, Brett Cook finished second by clearing an NCAA provisional height of 15-3.  Dave Bartolomucci won the 400 with a time of 49.92.

KU TRACK AND FIELD TEAMS PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS PREVIEW

KUTZTOWN, PA—The Kutztown University men’s and women’s Track and Field teams will take part in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships at East Stroudsburg, February 28-29.  This two-day event will showcase the top performers in the conference.

The women are competing for the top spot in the PSAC.  The Golden Bears hope to unseat two-time defending champion Lock Haven, and will have strong competition from Slippery Rock, East Stroudsburg and Shippensburg.

Kutztown has qualified two or more athletes in all but three events.

Jen Baney is the sole qualifier in the 55 dash and 200 meters.  Jaci Pfeiffer and Amie Bennett are hoping to score in the 55 hurdles.  Sara Otis, Laura Kline and Pfeiffer have qualified in the 400.

Madonna Patterson, Lauren Maxwell and Niya Adams are seeded first through third in the 800.  Adams, the 2 time reigning champion, is looking for her third trip to the podium.  Youth reigns in the mile for KU as Danielle Mousley, Desiree Bower, and Molly Lare have qualified.  Lare will also be seen in the 3000, while teammates and Erin Peiffer and Amanda Grant are will be in the 5000 and 3000.

Candice Bullard and Renee Marchand are looking to cause some damage in the high jump and the pentathlon.  Emily Cook and Steph Sukal are in the pole vault and Amy Schaeffer and Chrissy Procopio are in the triple jump.  Kaleena Lockard is ranked fifth in the shot put, while NCAA qualifiers Alison Maurer and Chrissy Procopio hope to leave their mark in the weight throw.

The relays will be a source of strength for Kutztown, as the 4x400 ranks second, the distance medley ranks fifth and the 4x800 is seeded first.

On the men’s side, Lock Haven is the prohibitive favorite to a third-straight indoor title.  Despite a clear favorite in the team race, several individual titles will be up for grabs and KU has a number of top competitors.

NCAA qualifier Dave Bartolomucci will compete in both the 200 and 400.  Tony Hegedus will join him in the 400. D’andre Pearson and Kareef Wallace represent Kutztown in the 55.

The distance events are looking to the younger athletes for points.  Gerard Ganey is running the 3000, while Billy Borse and Dave Tidey run the 800.

After setting last year’s PSAC record in the long jump, Justin Collins is competing in both the long and the triple jump.  Teammates Cornel Crawford and Matt Reffie will also compete in the triple jump.  The pole vault will be exciting because Kutztown has qualified seven athletes.

Chris Feighner and James Dart will represent Kutztown in the throwing events, and Steve Winters is the lone competitor in the pentathlon.
