KU Women
3rd, Tyson wins Shot Put, Men 7th
EAST STROUDSBURG,
PA - Kutztown University's women's indoor track & field team placed
third at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship on
Sunday at East Stroudsburg University. The men were
seventh.
Steve Tyson turned
in the top individual performance for the Golden Bears, winning his
third consecutive PSAC indoor championship in the shot put.
His winning throw of 53-2 3/4 was an NCAA provisional performance.
The KU women placed
third with 73.5 points, coming up short in their bid for a
fourth-straight PSAC indoor title. Slippery Rock ran away with
the team title with 162.5 points. Lock Haven was second with
86. East Stroudsburg was fourth with 72, followed by
Shippensburg with 68.
Renee Marchand
placed in three events. She was second in the pentathlon
(3,378 points), tied for fourth in the high jump (5-3 1/4) and was
sixth in the long jump (17-2). Stephanie Williams finished
second in the 5000 (18:03.66) and was fourth in the 3000 (10:23.99).
Kelly Strickland placed second in the pole vault (11-2 1/4).
Doofan Tor-Agbidye rounded out KU's top three finishers, placing
third in the 400 (59.47).
KU's men were
seventh out of 13 teams with 48 points. Lock Haven won the
team title with 140. Shippensburg was second (117) and East
Stroudsburg third (82). Slippery Rock (70.5), West Chester
(66) and Indiana (48.5) were fourth-through-sixth. Following
KU was Cheyney with 38 points.
Cody Hartzler tied for second in the high jump (6-8 1/4) and Brian Dodds
placed second in the pole vault (15-5 1/2). Tony Hegedus was
third in the 400 (49.49) and seventh in the 200 (22.94). Ian
Clark placed third in the pentathlon (3,363).
All top-three
individual finishers earned All-PSAC status.
